NCEP Expert Panel Third Report (1)
Lipid risk factors and predictors for CHD (1)
NCEP defines the lipid triad as a common form of dyslipidemia,
characterized by three lipid abnormalities: elevated TG, small LDL
particles, and reduced HDL-C.
The independent effect of raising HDL-C or lowering TG on the
risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality has not been
determined (2).
Adherence is critical to successful therapy (1)
- Most patients do not successfully self-administer medical
treatments as prescribed.
- Poor adherence with lipid-modifying therapy threatens the
success of any set of recommendations.
- Lack of adherence can cause patients to miss the benefits of
their treatment.
- Simplifying the medication regimen is one of many key
components to improving adherence.
